Privacy Policy

Last updated October 2026

The short version: Freehold doesn't collect your data, because Freehold doesn't have anywhere to send it. Everything you enter stays on your own device.

What Freehold is

Freehold is a budgeting, debt payoff, and net-worth tracking application that runs entirely on your own computer or device. There is no account to create, no bank connection, and no server that Freehold talks to while you use it.

Information we collect

None. Freehold does not collect, transmit, sell, or have any access to the financial information, personal details, or usage activity you enter into the app. We have no servers storing your budgets, debts, balances, or household profiles, because the app was built not to need any.

If you purchase Freehold through the App Store, Apple processes that transaction and may collect payment information under its own privacy policy — Freehold itself never sees your payment details.

Everything you type — income, expenses, debts, passcodes, household profiles — is written only to local storage on the device you're using. It never leaves that device unless you deliberately export a backup file yourself.

Backups

Freehold can save local backup snapshots to your device's own file system (for example, a Backups or Documents folder) so you don't lose your data if something goes wrong. These backups stay on your device. On iOS, they're visible in the Files app so you can move or copy them yourself; Freehold does not upload them anywhere.

You can also export a backup file manually at any time. That export is the only way your data ever leaves the device it was entered on, and it only happens when you choose to do it.

Passcodes

Freehold lets you set an optional passcode per household profile. This is a screen lock, meant to stop someone from casually opening the app and seeing your numbers — it is not encryption, and we don't want to oversell what it does. Don't rely on it to protect data on a device you don't otherwise trust.

Bank connections and third parties

Freehold does not connect to any bank, financial institution, or third-party data service of any kind. All figures are entered manually. There is no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking code in the app.

Children's privacy

Freehold is a household finance tool intended for adults managing a family's budget. It is not directed at children, and it does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age, since it does not collect information at all.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the update date above will change with it. Because Freehold has no account system or server, we have no way to email you directly — check back here if you want to confirm what's current.
